The Hunger Games soundtrack promises to be one of the best of the year, with original contributions from artists including Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Miranda Lambert, Maroon 5 and Neko Case. Rolling Stone went behind the scenes of the soundtrack and chatted with Swift and Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler about making music for the film adaptation of the hit novels. “Slipping into [Katniss’] mind was such a wonderful break,” says Swift, who wrote “Safe & Sound” and “Eyes Open” for the T Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack. “It’s pretty intense writing about my own life, my own struggles. It was almost like a vacation to get to write from someone else.”
